TIDAL WALL

STRATEGY - Using the Boston’s tidal patterns (sourced from NOAA) as a launching point for our design, a series of vertical planes that are water-jet or laser cut; reflecting real, documented tidal movements that give the Gates 37-38 corridor some vibrancy and texture.

Options for materials are varied, but they must all be durable and viable for a busy, hight-traffic environment. We recommend a metal base to protect the feature wall elements. Additionally, the panels can be further animated by wall washers with LED lighting.

The renovation within the 1970s structure was developed with a sustainability commitment to minimize replacement of existing building systems. The requirement to keep the gates operational within the construction site necessitated a complex phasing plan developed between the construction manager and design team.
